This Day In Weather History

1964 -   Springfield dropped to -3, the coldest temperatures recorded at Springfield's Capital Airport for the month of November. 

2006 - A major freezing rain and sleet event took place in central Illinois west of I-57 in the evening hours.  By December 1st it was snow.  Eleven counties in central Illinois had ice from 1/4" to 2" thick with areas near Decatur, Taylorville, Clinton and Mt. Pulaski being the thickest.  Eight counties had heavy sleeting which was as high as 2.2".  The heaviest snow occurred along and west of the Illinois River, where snow amounts were anywhere from 8 to 18 inches.  Areas east of the Illinois River had snow amounts up to 6 inches on top of the ice.
