Andrew Wilder

Updated: April 21, 2010
"The opportunity to cover great local and professional sports in a market who cares so strongly about its teams is a true honor and privilege," says Andrew Wilder.  "The intensity and excitement of Big Ten competition is second to none and the commitment the community takes in following it is motivational."

Wilder feels one of the strongest attractions of the Champaign-Urbana community and surrounding area is the passion for their high school teams.  "Friday night football makes me feel like a kid again when the lights come on and hundreds of fans turn out to root on their children, friends, or community members.  I'm truly blessed to have a job where I can watch, learn, discuss, and inform the public on my favorite subject."

Andrew Wilder's hails from Bourbonnais, IL (home of the Chicago Bears training camp) where he played baseball and was the captain of the varsity soccer team at Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School.

Wilder went on to receive a B.A. in Communication Studies, Electronic Media Production from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.  While at EIU, he worked at the local PBS affiliate, WEIU-TV, for four years and covered local sports on-air for 2 1/2 years.

In his free time, Wilder loves playing sports like soccer (which he's played since the age of 5), tennis, raquet ball, and basketball. He also enjoys games like horse shoes, bags, billiards, and disc golf, and staying in shape.  When he can, Wilder likes watching and attending any and all sporting events and loves listening to and seeing live music.
