Holiday gifts-Hot Chocolate & Herbed Cheese Spread

Updated: February 6, 2007
Swiss Mocha ½ cup instant coffee granules ½ cup sugar 1 cup nonfat dry milk powder 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa 1/8 teaspoon baking soda Stir coffee, sugar, nonfat milk, cocoa and baking soda together. Whirl in blender until powdered. Makes 1 cup dry mix, enough to make 20 cups of coffee at just 40 calories each. To give: Spoon mix into a zippered plastic storage bag, available in holiday motifs, and pack inside a holiday coffee mug, cup or holiday tin for gift-giving. Include these directions: "To prepare, use 2 rounded teaspoons of the mix for each 6 to 8 ounces of water or milk. Heat on stove or in the microwave to desired temperature, stirring to mix completely." For a bonus gift: Add a paperback novel by a favorite author or a movie that can be enjoyed with a cup of Swiss mocha. Herbed Cheese Spread 4 ounces cream cheese, softened 1/3 cup dairy sour cream 8 ounces shredded Colby/Monterey Jack cheese 2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onion ½ teaspoon paprika (optional) ¼ teaspoon hot pepper sauce In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese and sour cream until well blended. Stir in remaining ingredients; mix well. Spoon into a small decorative crock or bowl; cover and refrigerate until time to present it. To give: Make your own colorful gift basket, box or holiday platter. Add a bag of nuts, fresh or dried fruit, a box of crackers along with the herbed cheese spread.
