1899 - Decatur dropped to 20, the coldest temperature on record for the city in September. Effingham also set is September record at 23 and so did Champaign-Urbana at 24.1977 - A thunderstorm bought a bunch of rain in a short amount of time to the Springfield area. 1.05" fell in 5 minutes, in 10 minutes another 1.42" fell, and in 15 minutes 1.5" fell. Later in the day, a severe t-storm produced $20 million in damage in far east central Illinois. 30,000 acres of crops were destroyed by hail around Danville.
1984 - Springfield dropped to 32, the coldest temperature on record for the capital city in September.
