Champaign business owners are frustrated with the city`s decision to pass cheaper flood control for Boneyard Creek.
Earlier this month, the council agreed to spend $20-million on underground storage for storm run-off.
It would make room for a park at University Avenue and Second Street, but now the city`s changed its mind.
The city council decided to go with a plan that`s $2.5 million cheaper.
The mayor said he didn`t think it made sense to pay $2 million just for a two-acre park.
He also had questions as to whether the park would even be used.
Those in favor of the cheaper above-ground plan say the underground storage option posed technical problems, and the focus needs to be on the drainage of the water.
Some say, though, that still won`t make the land a useful asset like it could be.
They also say it won`t be as as pleasing to the eye.
The city still has to come up with money for the project.
