breaking news
Students will soon get a glimpse of school life as far back as the late 1800's. The original Sulphur Springs Schoolhouse is on display at Fletcher Park in Our Town Mt. Zion. The building, which is more than 100 years old, will be restored into a museum. A neighborhood was devloping at its original spot, so the landowner donated the school to the village. Don Hyland, a student there in the 1940's, says all grades were taught in the same room. And if you were thirsty or needed to use the restroom, you had to go outside. Public works made improvements over the winter, from new floors to chalkboards. It should be ready for tours by spring.
