Bears rally to beat Arizona, 24-23

Updated: January 7, 2009
Devin Hester returned a punt 83 yards late in the fourth quarter and the Chicago defense scored twice in the second half, as the Bears rallied from a 20-point deficit to topple the Cardinals, 24-23, at University of Phoenix Stadium. Neil Rackers had an opportunity to give the lead back to the Cardinals with under a minute to play, but hooked a 40-yard attempt wide left. Rackers also missed a field goal last week with two seconds remaining that allowed Kansas City to escape with a 23-20 victory. This loss came despite the fact that Bears starting quarterback Rex Grossman had six turnovers alone, or that the Cardinals dominated for the majority of the contest and held a 20-0 lead at halftime. Mike Brown and Charles Tillman each had fumble returns for touchdowns in the second half, however, before Hester came through with the game`s defining play. Grossman finished 14-of-37 for 148 yards with no touchdowns, four interceptions and two fumbles lost for Chicago (6-0), which hasn`t had this good of a start since 1986, when the team went 14-2. Matt Leinart went 24-of-42 for 232 yards with a pair of touchdown tosses for the Cardinals (1-5), who have dropped five straight -- none more potentially crippling than this one. Anquan Boldin had 12 catches for 136 yards and a score in defeat.
