Jeff Horner compiled 16 points, six rebounds and six assists to help Iowa knock off sixth-ranked and previously unbeaten Illinois 63-48 in a Big Ten showdown at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Adam Haluska scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half as the Hawkeyes (12-4, 1-1 Big Ten) improved to 10-0 at home this season and dealt the Fighting Illini just their second defeat in their last 56 regular season games. The Hawkeyes received a game-high 12 rebounds from Greg Brunner, while Mike Henderson had 10 points and eight boards in the win. James Augustine finished with 14 points and nine rebounds for the Illini (15-1, 1-1) but was saddled with foul trouble for a good portion of the game. And Illinois` other star player, point guard Dee Brown, suffered through a miserable afternoon.
