Updated: August 7, 2012
Cynthia wants you to walk out of the house in the morning feeling informed, happy, and ready to take on the day.

Cynthia believes an educated community makes for a better place to live, so she strives to break down complex issues, highlights unique aspects of  your community, and brings the good works everyday people do to life.  In her quest for information, Cynthia learns an incredible amount every day and meets some of the most intriguing people in Central Illinois.

In addition to anchoring The Morning Show, Cynthia also produces the weekly In Perspective segment. In reporting In Perspective stories, Cynthia takes a different look at common problems in the community, goes in-depth to expose new issues, introduces you to people making an impact, and sometimes she just has fun uncovering quirky stories and fun things to do in the community.

Cynthia got hooked on news in high school watching morning newscasts every day before school. From there, she took her passion for journalism to Syracuse University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. She also minored in Spanish.

After her time out East, Cynthia made her way back to the Midwest and started reporting at WKBT in La Crosse, WI.

She then made the move to WCIA in Champaign to report for the evening newscasts. From politics, to features, to spot news, Cynthia covered it all. In June of 2011, Cynthia was offered a promotion within the Nexstar family to be the evening anchor at WMBD in Peoria, IL. As luck would have it, only a few months later a Morning Show Anchor position opened up at WCIA in Champaign. Cynthia was offered the promotion and gladly accepted.

Now the Midwest girl who grew up in rural small-town America (Cuba City, WI ...to be exact.) is back in her adopted home of Champaign.

She says she's thrilled to be back and excited to help you start your day off right.

She's received multiple honors for her work by the Associated Press, Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, and Illinois Broadcasters Association as well.

In 2012, she was named Best Reporter by the Illinois Broadcasters Association.

Oh yeah, when she's not working- Cynthia likes discovering area restaurants, hanging out with her dog, Wrecker....and of course spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys (well, not really enjoys...but tolerates and often does it) running.

Cynthia loves a good story, so if you have one...or if you just want to say hello- drop her a line at cschweigert@wcia.com.
