New Service Coming Soon to Facebook

Updated: November 16, 2010

Facebook already rules the Web when it comes to finding friends.  Now the social networking site wants to get a hold of your inbox.

Facebook announced this week plans for a new all-in-one messaging service.  The planned system would combine all personal messages -- from Facebook users, as well as text, instant messages and e-mail.

Facebook says the message service would have the benefit of letting users limit
who can contact them -- eliminating spam and other unwanted communications.

Facebook says its new e-mail system will be phased in gradually, by invitation
only.

The company wants to get lots of feedback before releasing it to all
500 million users.
