Danville Recreation Manager Cindy Parson says any problems at the city's pool are a thing of the past.
The city is making several changes this year.
Everything will be fenced in with only one way to get in the pool.
A new spray park is also being constructed.
The park will have a water slide and water cannons along with a rainbow bridge.
Along with all of this the Parks and Recreation Department is also revamping the front of the pool building.
What used to be a small plywood room where the cashiers sat is now a fully enclosed brick room with bulletproof glass windows.
Armed robbers struck two times last summer at the pool and workers say with the new changes that shouldn't happen again. "This will be safer," says Recreation Manager Cindy Parson. "It will be safer for everyone involved."
Parents say the changes will help.
Stacy Brandon takes her kids to the pool each summer and she says the improvements are great.
"I don't have a problem with them going to the pool since they've had the robberies," says Brandon. "I feel safer so it's a good thing."
The Danville Boys and Girls Club takes several trips to the pool every summer.
The director says the robberies did raise concerns but he wouldn't go if he didn't feel safe.
"Last year the kids had some questions for us, you know like What's going on? or Will people rob us? I told them no your safe," says Director Rickey Williams.
"I think what happened last year made the parents wary but I think when you take more measures to protect children that it makes the parents feel more safe."
The pool is set to open this weekend.
The spray park will be completed in late June.
Parson says all in all it will be a better experience for families, they just need some warmer weather.
