A big boost for Danvilles Mass Transit system as ridership is up more than 40 percent. Since 2002 number s show that more people are parking their cars and riding the bus. The director believes the biggest reason behind the jump is gas prices. Since 2005, the last time gas dipped below two dollars a gallon, ridership has spiked. Between May 2004 and May 2006, almost 10-thousand more riders took the bus. An influx of people from Chicago, and seniors are another major reason more people are taking the bus. D-M-T also added new routes and extended its hours to appeal to more riders. The company had to purchase larger buses to accommodate the new passengers.
