breaking news
One of Springfields hot spots is closed indefinitely.
Because of Saturdays drowning ... The Lake Springfield Beach wont re-open.
16-year old Eric Jones died while swimming with his family...
Tonight.. the life guards are too emotional to return to work.
Swimmers say ..they worry about their safety at the beach..
Many of these workers are teens some home from college ... Thats why CWLP says itll offer grief counseling .
After Jones drowned on Saturday .. CWLP had the beach closed out of respect for the family but it was supposed to re-open today (Wednesday).
Since then theyve been talking with lifeguards to see if anything went wrong ... But so far the lakes owner says nothing has gone wrong.
Although one parent says, she feels safer at other water parks than the citys beach.
"I am a little bit more hesitant about other facilities because of the depth of the water and how many guards are on duty ... The last thing you need who is insecure with their job to be placed in a position where they are handling a life situation." Said Debbie Lahey, Parent.
CWLP says its lifeguards are certified and trained through the Red Cross and the YMCA.
They also have CPR training.
As far as CWLP is aware of, this is the first drowning in its history at the Lake Springfield Beach.
Again the beach is closed for now ... The beach season is scheduled to end August 5th.
