There's still a chance the Collins and Aikman plants in Rantoul could stay open. Earlier this week workers discovered they could be getting their pink slips as early as tomorrow. The Company says it's still talking to Cadence Innovation to buy it's three rantoul plants, but if they don't sell them all 534 employees will be laid off.
Meanwhile, Village leaders met this morning to talk about how they could help workers. Administrators say they have been told the plants will close by July 20th and have not heard otherwise from the plant.
Leaders talked about how to help workers today including attracting businesses, improving job fairs and working alongside the State's employment active response team which has been called out.  Collins and Aikman is selling all of its worldwide plants since it filed for bankruptcy. They're due back in bankruptcy court next week. Village leaders say they are also waiting for the company to call them back in hopes to talk to workers and see how they can best market their skills.
