The site is three times larger than outside Memorial Stadium where the fireworks are usually held. But road construction has lots of people concerned about traffic tie-ups. Champaign County's Freedom Celebration has always been a highlight for small and big kids alike and this year the celebration is no different. It's just in a new spot at Dodds park. The spot borders with construction and closed streets. It's a worry this year to many families.
Parent Damon Derrickson say, " it's kind of a mess, but you just have to deal with it. I want my kids to have fun. We'll prob ably get through it and get stuck in line for a long time."
Champaign police Sargent Scott Friedlein is making sure your drive to and from the Celebration is safe and fast. Part of his plan is turning Bradley Avenue into a one way street going into Dodds Park. That will start at 6pm between Country Fair Drive and Duncan Road. "It should go fairly smoothly but we also have 2 other entrances for the vehicles to use," he adds. Those entrances are on Mattis Avenue and Duncan Road.
After the show, Bradley Avenue will turn into a one way street leading out of the park. Police will be out there to show you where you can and cannot go.
