(ST. JOSEPH)---Family and friends remembered the lives of two young children Tuesday night just hours after learning new details about the crash that killed them. 31-year-old Keith Heer is facing aggravated D.U.I and reckless homicide charges. Last week police say he lost control of his car, hit a bridge and split the car in two.
2-year-old Genevieve Heer and her 1-year-old brother Hunter died in that crash. Their loved ones say Tuesday night's public viewing was about remembering them. Inside the funeral home there were plenty of pictures, flowers and opportunities to leave messages of support. The family says Genevieve liked to sing and dance and Hunter loved crawling and exploring things like his big sister's hair.
"My heart definitely goes out to the family." Says longtime family friend John Foster "I've known the Heer's for more than half of my life. (I) was at a party just two weeks ago out in New Lennox and Emily and the two babies were there. It's just a very bad, bad, bad deal."
Private funeral services will be held for both children on Wednesday. The family is asking that donations be made on the children's behalf to "The Crisis Nursery.".
