Main Street & Busey Merger
Updated: June 13, 2007
CHAMPAIGN - Customers say they're okay with a planned merger between Main Street Bank and Trust and First Busey Bank. The Department of Justice okayed the merger of the two banks with one condition today. It ordered Main Street sell off five of its current locations.Officials say this will keep the banks from becoming a monopoly in the area. Main Street President and CEO Van Dukeman says customers at these locations will go with the sale and become customers of whatever bank buys the branches.
The future is not certain for employees at locations being sold. Dukeman says it's most likely that the new bank will keep the same employees.
As for the merger it cannot go through until the five branches have been sold. Dukeman says that should be done sometime next month.
Main Street Locations Being Sold:
1611 S. Prospect, Champaign
631 E. Green Street, Champaign
1819-A Philo Road, Urbana
