The Vermilion County Health Department is set to begin additional testing tomorrow for gonorrhea. The Department announced last month that reported cases of gonorrhea were up 75-percent in the county during the first four months of the year. Health officials said there had been a 145-percent increase in the number of males with the sexually transmitted disease…and a 23-percent increase in females. Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Stephen Laker says the rising numbers has put a strain on hospital resources as people report to the emergency room seeking testing. Therefore the Health Department will test for gonorrhea every Tuesday from 2 until 3:30 p.m. starting tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon.
