breaking news
The last day of school can be hard for many kids wholl miss their friends and teachers over summer break.
But for one Catholic school theyre saying their final good-byes.
While many teachers and students at Ursuline are still holding out hope to keep the school alive ... coming up with the money could be impossible. Still ... theyre not looking at today as their final good-bye.
"I dont think it will be the last day because I have a lot of hope that we will be opening next year." Said Stephanie Patterson, Sophomore at Ursuline.
As these teens walked out the door for what could be their last day at Ursuline Academy one freshman spent over a hundred dollars on carnations as a token of hope.
"The school year is not over we need something to remember it by. The school is never going to die." Said Lauren Action, Freshman at Ursuline.
Meantime, Ursuline and Springfield College are trying to reach a deal, but itll cost each student 62 hundred dollars if they want to keep the 150 year Catholic tradition going.
"There is a little hope but its a slim chance we could pull this off...Either 150 students and we work something out with the other use of the buildings and if we only have this building we cant go unless we get portable classrooms but how long does that take." Said John Stimler, Ursuline Principal.
As the school leaders try to keep their doors open some students are preparing to stick together even if its at a different school.
"We are all just trying to pass around myspace messages and e-mails saying where you are going. We are trying to stick together because we are trying to stay as close as a family." Said Acton.
Stimler says hes still hesitant because SCI is willing to forgive the 200 thousand dollars thats owed to the college ... but will have to make it up sometime in the future.
Ursulines principal hopes to bring closure with a final decision by Monday.
