Starting in mid-August Allegiant Air will offer non-stop flights to Las Vegas out of Willard airport in Savoy. Willard airport officials say they're focusing on leisure this time.
Last year Delta airlines left Willard airport because of high fuel costs and low-ticket sales. That left American and Northwest airlines as the only airlines at the Savoy airport.
Officials say the loss hurt them but what's different with Allegiant Airlines is the interest in where you're headed and the low price it'll take to get there.
So no more long drives to Chicago or Indianapolis. Your vacation could start here at home.
And to get people even more excited about flying to this popular destination, the airline is offering a limited time fare of only 79 dollars.
If all goes as planned, Vegas could be the first of several new destinations.
Flights will be offered from Willard on both Thursdays and Sundays. Allegiant Air will also be adding direct flights to Vegas from Springfield’s Capitol airport in August.
