Updated: May 29, 2007

$ Two people are now behind bars after passing counterfeit bills at a community rummage sale. It happened in the Village of Tilton, just south of Danville. Neighbors say this is a sale they do throughout the community every year and from now on, they say they're going to have to be on the defensive. Sheriff's officers say in all, six people received fake bills. Officers say the suspects worked their way through the neighborhood sales paying with the counterfeit money. Those responsible are now behind bars. But neighbors who lost money say the crime hit them where it hurts most. "It frustrates me you know, people have these garage sales to help make ends meet and we got clowns making counterfeit bills," said Mike Lomax, a victim of the counterfeit ring. Officers say while it's not a huge problem, they do see a fair share of counterfeiting in the community. And it often can be hard for the average person to spot.
