Mayor Davlin didnt highlight many new plans for Springfield in his State of the City address. Instead he talked a lot about past accomplishments. One plan for the future is a plan he wanted to finish in 2005. Thats deciding if Hunter Lake could become another water source for Springfield. Davlin thinks the new City Council will be willing to find a second water source for Springfield. Davlin also says since Amtrak train use has jumped so dramatically, its time to give the train station a $300,000 facelift. Davlin says, "I dont forsee the Amtrak station itself ever being leveled. I forsee something being done with that and now its in such disrepair that it needs to be fixed." In the past city officials have talked about building a multi-modal transportation hub for as the main train and bus station. And theyve talked about relocating railroad tracks around town. Davlin says those are still possibilities, even with the the Amtrak station renovations. Overall Davlin says he thinks the state of the city is great. But he says one of the biggest problems in the city is homelessness. But he didnt talk about any plan to address that in his speech. Davlin also says he hopes this year Springfield will be chosen to host the world premiere of the new Simpsons movie. Our Springfield is competing with more than a dozen other Springfields in the country to host the premiere.
