Even though the fans may have been focused on the field of play during this afternoon's spring game, it was clear others in the stands and on the sidelines were focused on the future, particularly the improvements to Memorial Stadium.
"Just in time you know,” says former Fighting Illini and NFL Hall of Famer Dick Butkus. "They're getting all this done here, it's going to be nice."
Construction plans call for a complete enclosure of the Football stadium, renovations to the press box and the installation of some high-end luxury boxes. Fans say these changes are long overdue.
"Yeah, they've needed it for a while, with all the other college stadiums especially in the Big Ten." says Illini fan Scott Hackey. "Everybody's got the luxury boxes now and I know Illinois was really lagging behind on that revenue."
Regardless of all the changes, many fans say it was good to be back in the stands and have the Fighting Illini back on the field.
