Suspicious Fires in Urbana Launch Investigation

Investigators want to know who set a strong of fires this morning in Urbana. Someone set fires to garages and vehicles on three streets in the same neighborhood. In the 2400 block of Dodson, a shed was almost completely burned down. Just one block away on Nevada a mini-van, as well as part of a garage got torched. Near there on Washington, investigators believe someone lit a map on fire, and tossed it into a nearby car. Firefighters say they think someone was up to know good because of how close the fires were, and the timing of the incidents. Brian Brauer of the Edge Scott Fire Protection District says the clues left behind do raise eyebrows. He says, “We were on the scene of the first vehicle fire when [we] drove past the second fire and the Urbana Fire Department helped us out with the third fire, while were on the second.” No one was injured in any of the fires. The State Fire Marshal’s office and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Department are heading up the investigation.
