Police arrested a Monticello Middle School student for having drugs at school. Linda Miller who lives in Monticello says, "this is very shocking, I'm very sad about it ", considering her town is very safe. The arrest has people and the school district talking.
Today, the school sent out a second letter to parents, assuring them the school is safe. It comes two days after the middle school was put on lock-down and a student arrested for having what police believe is cocaine.
At this point, police are looking into how this happened. The 12 year old's father was questioned by police. School leaders say this all started when the student told classmates he had drugs on him. The Principal says she locked down Monticello Middle School because he wouldn't tell her what he had or where it was. Officers and a dog were then called out to search all the lockers. Miller says she's surprised with the arrest, " I hope this is an isolated case and it probably is, because some kids just get into trouble; unfortunately, I'm very sad for the child and for the family." The principal says at no point were any kids in danger. She sent out a letter today to end rumors about what was found in the school. She says it was drugs, not guns or weapons. Parents we talked to were pleased with how the school informed them so quickly and how it handled the situation.
