It brings thousands to Rantoul every summer with the promise of a thrill, but this year the World Free Fall Convention is taking a break.
Organizers say they canceled this year's event because of logistics and personal reasons.
Some business owners worry they'll see a drop in sales this summer, especially one local restaurant that has a lot invested in the event.
It's called The Skydive Bar and Grill. Until two weeks ago, it was known as Johnny's Grill but the owners changed their name to take advantage of the free-fall crowd that swarm to Rantoul each Summer.
Right off the main drag, the event brings in a lot of business for the restaurant every summer.
"It increases that week, probably five to eight thousand dollars," says restaurant manager, Danelle Morger. "They come in they find out they like it and bring their friends so word of mouth so that brings in five to fifteen the next night."
Village leaders say restaurants, gas stations, and hotels will all take a hit this summer. But Rantoul will bounce back.
Chamber of Commerce Director, Joe Bolser says they are already looking ahead to the future.
"They lost some business and yes it hurts those people but for the overall economy of Rantoul, it's not going to devastate us we're still going to bounce right along and hopefully we're still going to get something to replace that."
Back at the Skydive Grill, they're not too worried, but hope the convention isn't gone for good.
They say for now, there are no plans to change the name again.
