CHAMPAIGN -- Hundreds of high school dance teams competed on the biggest stage of the year Saturday. The teams were dancing for a state title.

The Illinois Drill Team Association held its 34th annual competition at Assembly Hall. Teams winning their regional competitions were invited to the state contest. The organization's president says she is impressed with how students collaborate with each other.

"What's amazing is how kids are so supportive for each other and the good sportsmanship that we see throughout the day and the amazing routine."

Each dance category awards up to fifth place.
