Arson Investigation

Updated: March 13, 2007
Investigators say they think the fire that severely damaged a house near Urbana this morning may have been set intentionally. The fire gutted the home at 2403 East Elm Street. The homeowner said the house was vacant at the time of the fire. Champaign County Sheriff's Officers say they investigated a break-in at the home last night and found evidence someone had tried to set a fire and failed. "Last evening we had gone out there for a burglary report and at that time we located where somebody had tried to set a fire in this particular home," said Lieutenant Ed Ogle. Ogle said they do not have any suspects at this time. Investigators say it may take several days before the exact cause of the fire is known.
