UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- The UI is in charge of a project to help people in Iraq become better farmers.

Organizers said they'll teach farmers in the Middle East to reduce dependency on foreign food. They plan to help residents learn to grow food on their own. Iraq currently imports about 80% of its food.

This program will bring new research opportunities for UI staff and students. The project is funded by USAID, which is the U.S. Agency for International Development.
