GIBSON CITY -- People in and around town helped cover the cost to save the Harvest Moon Drive-In. The owners were worried they would have to close because they couldn't afford the new technology. But, the community wouldn't let that happen.

They Took Action to keep the drive-in open. The owner says about 1,000 people donated for the cause. Some gave a little. Some gave more. But, every little bit helped.

The owner says he's so grateful for people in the community who stepped up. This isn't the first time they've helped out. He says he was worried he'd have to close after the recession hit, but neighbors encouraged him to stay open.

Some people outside the city pitched in this time around as well. It includes a woman from the U.K. who lives in Champaign. She says going to the drive-in is a fun "American" thing to do since weather in the U.K. doesn't really lend itself to outdoor movies. She went with her husband for the first time last year. They're excited to go back this summer.

The final fundraising push came from a local business; Neal Tire. It donated $10,000 to help the theater reach its goal.
