BOE wants more money for schools

SPRINGFIELD -- Even though the state is struggling financially, the State Board of Education is asking for more money. Leaders say they need nearly $1 billion for next year's budget.
The amount would help fully fund our public schools. Education leaders say the quality of learning here is slipping because of cuts the past few years. But, lawmakers say there's no extra money to hand out.
