Quinn reconsiders gun shows on state property

Updated: January 21, 2013
SPRINGFIELD -- All of the gun talk around the state is giving a gun trade show more attention than usual. Gov. Pat Quinn and other state leaders have been pushing to get an assault weapon ban in Illinois.

But Saturday, many weapons like that were on display during a gun show at the State Fairgrounds. Quinn's office says the governor thinks having the guns on display on state property sends the wrong message.

A spokeswoman says the governor is rethinking whether gun shows should be allowed on public property. Quinn's office said it had no problem with letting this weekend's gun show go on as planned since it had been scheduled a year ago. Customers at the packed gun show were buying up whatever they could in anticipation of a potential ban.
