The Champaign County State's Attorney's office filed charges against U of I basketball player Jamar Smith today following his car crash last week. Smith is charged with one count of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident. U of I police say their investigation shows Smith and his teammate Brian Carlwell were drinking at an apartment at College Fields Apartments on South First Street in Champaign last Monday night. Smith and Carlwell later got into Smith's car and then crashed it into a tree. Preliminary results show Smith's blood alcohol content was at .176.
