Snow Days Send Parents Scrambling

Updated: February 13, 2007
blizzardDECATUR-Snow Days may be fun for kids but many parents are forced to take off work. Many parents had to call into work or even have grandparents come over to help out. The snow conditions made it too dangerous for families to hit the roads.
One Decatur family said they felt lucky to spend the day snowed in with the kids. The Donahue family spent the whole day together.
"We got a call at 5 this morning from the school district letting my husband know he didn't have to go to work today so I kinda figured that it was going to be pretty bad, " said Jana Donahue, the mother of two little girls who spent the day playing at home today.
When the kids day care was closed they felt lucky that dad, Tommy Donahue, is a high school teacher and got the day off too.He says snow days can be as much fun for teachers as it is for students.
While snow days are fun, it can be difficult to keep the kids busy indoors all day. Jana says they spent the day playing games, coloring, watching movies and playing dress-up. She says there really isn't much else to do on a day like this.
The kids had plenty of time for fun and the family says they are taking advantage of the time they can spend together.
"We see each other in the evenings but never for a whole day like this so it's fun."
