Urbana Meijer Concerns

The city of Urbana is doing what it can to keep neighbors up to date about the new Meijer store moving in. The store will be built near the corner of Windsor and Philo roads and has raised concerns among residents in the area. The city had hoped to have more meetings with Meijer officials, but Meijer says that's not an option anymore. So Council Woman Lynn Barnes recently sent an email to neighbors as an update on the project. Neighbors have raised several concerns in past meetings about noise and traffic, as well as what the store will look like. The city says even though meetings are not an option, they hope these emails can help to give neighbors a voice. "We are trying to provide these frequently asked questions, information to the best of our ability,"said Urbana Community Development Director, Libby Tyler. She says the city will then relay any questions or concerns residents have to the Meijer offices. Tyler says so far Meijer has made several landscaping changes to help it fit into its residential setting. The store is set to open by spring next year. If you do have questions or concerns you would like to raise in person, Urbana officials say people are still welcome to do so at any of the upcoming city council meetings.
