The Geirtz family knows the pain of cancer all too well.

"You're kind of going through a whirlwind," father Mike Giertz said. "You never think this is going to happen to you."

Their son Jordan was diagnosed with bone cancer when he was 20-year-old.  Every two weeks, for two years, the family drove to St. Louis for treatment.  They stayed for days on end at a place called the Haven House.

"We needed a place to go and not just set and stare at the walls," Giertz said.

When Jordan died in December, the family knew they wanted to turn their tragedy into hope for someone else.
They are organizing a bike ride in his memory.  The trip will be 168 miles from their home in Gays, Il to the Haven House in St. Louis.  The trip will raise money for the Haven House.

"God has blessed us with a lot of things and Jordan was one of them," Giertz said. "He's passed away, but there's got to be something good come out of this."

As they ride, they hope for healing.

"We just felt like it's what he would've wanted, not just set in the house and mope around," Jordan's mom Peggy said.

They want the ride to bring help and hope for another family.

"You look at your son passing away and you don't want that to be the end of it.  You've got to make something positive out of it," Giertz said.

The family hopes to raise $10,000.  To donate directly to the Haven House click here.  For a link to the Journey for Jordan Facebook Page click here.  Or to donate directly to the ride contact Peggy Giertz or Missy Hendrickson on Facebook.

The bike ride will happen June 23rd and continue until the 25th.
