This Day In Weather History

2002 - 6 to 8 inches of snow fell along and west of the Illinois River.  The snow started falling during the evening hours and continued through the 2nd.  On top of the snow, strong northwest winds with gusts around 40 mph caused blowing and drifting snow.  Most roads were snow and ice covered and therefore, numerous traffic accidents were reported.  Northern Illinois was hit harder with up to 11 inches of snow.
