1884 - Some of the coldest temperatures in central Illinois history were recorded on this date. The high temperaturee in Springfield only reached 12 degrees below zero after a morning low of 22 below zero. Peoria's morning low of 27 degrees below zero set the cit's all-time record low, which still stands.1895 - The first snowfall of the 1894-95 winter was recorded in Springfield. This is the latest Springfield has waited to see measureable snowfall.
1999 - A clear sky and light winds along with thick snow cover helped the temperature drop to bitter cold and record breaking levels. Congerville, which is northwest of Bloomington, dropped to 36 degrees below zero, which set a new record for the state of Illinois. Champaign and Lincoln dropped to 25 below zero with 21 below at Springfield and 19 below in Peoria.
