Cardinals celebrate with parade

Updated: January 7, 2009
St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - From 83 wins to World Series champions in less than a month. It was quite a ride for the St. Louis Cardinals and their fans. An estimated 500,000 of those fans lined downtown St. Louis and piled into Busch Stadium for a parade to celebrate the Cardinals` first championship since 1982. The Cardinals were transported by trucks down Market Street in downtown St. Louis before finishing things with a rally at Busch. The team received thunderous applause while walking from the dugout to a podium placed at second base. Two days earlier, the Cardinals won their 10th championship. Only the New York Yankees, with 26, own more World Series titles. St. Louis is considered to be one of the best baseball cities in America and sold out every game in the first year of the new Busch Stadium with a total attendance of 3.4 million.
