CHAMPAIGN -  Police said a gunman accused of shooting another person at Marketplace Mall, was stopped after two officers shot him down.

Sunday afternoon Champaign Police were called out to a person driving recklessly around the mall.  Officials said witnesses saw a passenger with a gun.

Police said that's when they heard shots and saw the man shoot at another male.  They say he shot several rounds at the person outside the mall in front of  LensCrafters.

Two officers then shot the suspect, and both he and the victim were taken to Carle Hospital.

Both of the officers are on administrative leave as the Champaign County Sheriff's Office along with the FBI investigate what happened.

"They came, they did their job and stopped a person from shooting another individual," explained Champaign Police Chief R.T. Finney.

Since it's an active investigation, neither of the officers names will be released.  It's not sure which officer's gun hit the suspect or how many times.

Police also have not released the name of the suspect or victim.  They are still questioning many people.

If you have any information call Crime Stoppers 217-373-TIPS or Champaign Police 217-351-4545.
