SPRINGFIELD -- The State Police testified at a public hearing on concealed carry. The agency worries it won't have adequate resources to issue permits when a law is passed.

Lt. Darrin Clark says they don't have the manpower or the money right now. He points to the FOID card delay and says the same issue could surface with concealed carry permits too.

The State Police predicts it'll need at least $2 million in start up costs to hire more staff and get a new system in place to start processing requests. The permits could potentially cost about $240, but Clark says that could very well change. He says it all depends on the demand.

Lawmakers have until June to pass a concealed carry law. Many seem divided on what they'd like to see done. A second public hearing is scheduled in Chicago later this week.
