CHAMPAIGN - With 0.9 sec left on the clock, Brandon Paul inbounded the ball to a wide open Tyler Griffey underneath the basket. With one motion to the hoop, history was made. Griffey's buzzer-beating layup gave Illinois a 74-72 win over No. 1 Indiana.
Griffey scored 14 points on the night, none bigger than his final two. DJ Richardson and Brandon Paul kept Illinois in the game, with 23 and 21 points respectively. The seniors led the way from start to finish.
The win is Illinois' first over a No. 1 team since 2004, when they knocked off Wake Forest. It is only Illinois' 3rd ever win against the nation's top-ranked team.
