SPRINGFIELD -- Should politicians lose their pay if they don't fix the state's debt? One lawmaker thinks so.

Rep. Charles Meier (R-Highland) filed a new bill calling for just that. He wants to suspend all state lawmakers' and constitutional officers' salaries, reimbursements and per-diems, until they pay old bills owed to vendors.

While some people think the idea is pretty wild, others wonder if this is what the state needs to help chip away at all the debt. Meier's office wasn't available for a comment because of the holiday.

Governor Quinn's rep says he'll review any piece of legislation that makes it to his desk. The bill has been assigned to a House committee.
