Chris Beatty is out as co-offensive coordinator at Illinois.

Beatty was fired after just one year with the Illini. Illinois' offense ranked 119th in the nation in scoring offense, mustering just more than 16 points a game. Beatty previously spent time with Vanderbilt and West Virginia.

It is believed the other co-offensive coordinator, Billy Gonzales, will move to wide receivers coach and Illinois will search for a new offensive coordinator.

U of I release:

Illinois football coach Tim Beckman announced today a change on the coaching staff with co-offensive coordinator/quarterback coach Chris Beatty not being retained. A national search for an offensive coordinator will begin immediately.

"Chris Beatty is an outstanding person and a good coach," Beckman said. "His family will always be a part our Illini football family. I wish him the best as he moves forward with his career."

Illinois averaged 16.7 points and 296.7 yards in total offense in 2012, ranking 12th in the Big Ten in both categories.
