Missouri coach Frank Haith said missed assignments allowed Egwu to get opened. The forward scored two dunks while adding a layup within the first four minutes of the game. Once Missouri accounted for him, the Tigers kept Egwu at bay while allowing their forwards out-rebound Illinois 58-35.
Illinois was 8 of 32 from the three point line. Their shots were not falling throughout the game, but John Groce said his team took too many early shots and their selection could have been better. The early shots, Groce said, helped Illinois in the turnover department (they only gave the ball up 7 times). But the first year Illini coach said an early shot that does not fall can sometimes be as bad as a turnover.
The Illini will return to practice December 26th, as they prepare for Auburn next Saturday in Chicago.
