CHAMPAIGN - Illinois football coach Tim Beckman confirmed today that junior defensive tackle Akeem Spence will declare for the NFL draft.  He also added that linebacker Jonathan Brown plans to return for his senior year after an injury-plagued junior campaign.

Beckman told ESPN Radio 93.5 he is "proud" of Spence, who will leave with one season of eligibility remaining.  An official announcement could come as early as Friday.

The 6' 1'' 305 lb. defensive lineman was named honorable mention All-Big Ten last season.  He had 72 total tackles, 7 tackles-for-loss and a forced fumble
