CHAMPAIGN - Illinois head football coach Tim Beckman says he never feared he'd be fired after a 2-10 record in his first year at Illinois.

"No," Beckman told ESPN Chicago's Scott Powers.  "I just got here."

Beckman's Illini didn't win a single Big Ten game causing many fans to call for his ouster, but athletic director Mike Thomas publicly gave Beckman a vote of confidence after the season.
