PEORIA -- A 5th grader is being hailed a hero after taking action to save a friend's life. It happened Thursday at Mark Bills Middle School.

11-year-old Terrius Winters and his friend were on their way to the restroom when his friend started choking. Winters says he knew something was wrong when his friend started pointing at his throat. He says he knew what to do because he had been taught by his mom and grandmother.

Classmates congratulated Winters as a hero, but he says he's just glad his best friend is still in his life. He'll be recognized for his bravery next Monday during a school assembly.
