IROQUOIS COUNTY -- The man accused of shooting and killing a gas station clerk in Gilman last month says he's not guilty. Andrew Condon made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

But, before that, he had a few words for our camera as he walked to court from the jail.

"Not guilty," said Condon. "Matter of circumstance. They are anti-NRA. Just letting you all know. Matter of circumstance."

Condon faces two counts of first degree murder. Both charges are for the same incident, the October shooting of Jonathan Rubin.

Investigators said Condon shot Rubin multiple times. One of the charges is for firing a weapon with intent to do harm. The other is for creating a strong probability of death.

Condon also faces drug charges for items found when his home was searched. Investigators say they also found shell casings at the home which is near a firing range, but did not confirm if they were the same type as the ones used in the shooting.

Condon faces an Iroquois County Grand Jury next month. It will decide whether or not there is probable cause to move on with the case. Condon faces up to life in prison if he's convicted.

Authorities say robbery was not a motive for the crime but have not released any more details about a possible motive or whether the suspect and victim knew each other.

GILMAN -- A man is in jail, accused of murdering a gas station attendant last month. Police say Andrew Condon, 33, shot the clerk multiple times all over his body. The victim, Jonathan Rubin, 27, died at the scene.

Police searched Condon's home in rural Ashkum, November 1. Items were seized from his home and sent to the Illinois State Police crime lab for analysis. A forensic match was determined between items from Condon's home and items from the crime scene.

Condon is being held at the Iroquois County Jail on $1,000,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing.
