CHAMPAIGN- Jaylon Tate committed to Illinois basketball during a visit to Champaign. He confirmed his commitment via text message to WCIA's Austin Kim.

Tate is the fourth member of Illinois basketball's 2013 class. Tate's commitment was first reported by Chicago Hoops.

The Simeon guard joins his teammate and good friend Kendrick Nunn at Illinois. Tate has said that him and Nunn are "partners in crime." Nunn committed to the Illini in September after taking in a football game at Memorial Stadium.

Tate's commitment gives John Groce the point guard he's coveted since he got to Champaign. The only true point guard on the Illini roster currently is sophomore Tracy Abrams. Groce originally went after 4-star prospect Demetrius Johnson, but Johnson chose Notre Dame over the Illini. Since then, Groce has gone hard after the Simeon point man.

Tate provides more balance to a well-rounded 2013 class. The point guard is joined by Nunn, guard Malcolm Hill and big man Maverick Morgan.
